SPANISH TEACHING AT SWANS
Spanish plays a vital part in our curriculum and is a fully authorised section, permitting children who follow the “Educación Primaria” course in language and social sciences to transfer into the Spanish school system should they so wish.
In Early Years a bi-lingual classroom is the norm, with English as the language of the class teacher. As the children progress into Reception they have at least half their day with a Spanish speaking assistant in the classroom as well as following pre-escolar with their Spanish teacher. Their pre-escolar studies continue in Year 1. As children enter the first year of Educacion Primaria in Year 2 we aim for all children to follow this course in Language and Social Studies particularly if they have been at Swans since Early Years. To this end all children in Year 2 follow a common course. This involves between 4 and 5 hours of lessons per week plus homework. This pattern continues until Year 6 and into Year 7 (Swans Sierra Blanca, our secondary school) as the Spanish primary system ends at the end of the English system’s Year 7. Our Spanish teachers are fully qualified and are native Spanish speakers.
